My Scarlet S

At twenty‑one, my life changed forever in a single night. One moment I had a sense of security, a future, a place where I belonged—and in the next moment, it was gone.
The loss was so sudden, so shattering, that I spent a lifetime trying to outrun it. It wasn’t until years later that the truth finally came to light.
Shame had threaded herself through every fiber of my being, through hopes and dreams, and all that I held dear. The only way I knew to face it was through the magic of the written word.
And so I stepped inside an unseen world. A world where the past could be reimagined, where wounds could speak, and where love and romance could stand the test of time.
And that world became

The Sisterhood

Darkness greets me when I wake—and with it memories of that fated night. It’s then I call upon my long-lost friends. One hand upon the closet door, I smile and swing it open wide.
“Come on out, friends, it’s girls’ night!” Sister Shame stands beside me as I greet my friends.
Then I hand them my finest Waterford and fill them to the brim with sparkling wine.
Unworthy leans forward, eyes bright. “Are we celebrating something special tonight?”
I nod and smile, then tap my wineglass with my fingertip.
“Friends, tonight marks the fortieth anniversary of the night we all met.
Let’s take a moment to remember the man who brought us together that night.”
The room quiets to a whisper.
“I’m sure this would never have happened had he not lost his way. Let’s send him peace and the hope that he finds himself in the afterlife.”
All heads bow.
“May his soul find peace,” we chant out loud. A faint warmth brushes the room—but only long enough to notice.
Rejected wipes her eyes. “We should do this more often. It’s the only time I don’t feel cast out.”
“Then it’s settled. We’ll make this a tradition. Now, who’s ready for another round?”
Magic Carpet Ride

My Scarlet S
No sooner do we take a seat when—high up in the clouds above—our ship sails over land and sea. Held safe inside my true love’s arms, we gaze in wonder at the sights. Of spinning planets, falling stars, distant worlds, and magic lands.
Then suddenly the wind whips ‘round and sweeps across the midnight sky. I smooth my hand upon his cheek and whisper softly in his ear:
“If this were but a starlit dream, what would you dare to dream this night?”
From sailing stars to silver lights, he speaks his wish into the mist: “I’d catch the brightest evening star and marvel at its burning light.”
And with his lips pressed into mine, he speaks to me in unsaid words. A gentle touch, a tender breath . . . a deep and softened, yearning kiss. Another gust of wind and gale; I close my eyes and hear these words:
“If this were but a moonlit dream, I’d hold you close and naught let go.”
